Intentional Spiritual Formation for the Whole Family
The statistics are alarming. 66% of Christian teens stop attending church regularly between the ages of 18 and 22. And more than one-third of committed, churchgoing Christians relate to the idea of having deconstructed the faith of their youth. As a pastor, a parent of four adult children, and a grandparent of five, those statistics are horrifying to me, as I’m sure they are to you. But they are also incredibly motivating. We’re facing a discipleship crisis in the American church. Discipleship is a nebulous, intimidating concept that isn’t fully understood. If adult discipleship is lacking, is it any wonder that the parents in our church do not feel equipped to disciple their kids? Parents are frequently outsourcing their children’s discipleship to Sunday school teachers and relegating what I would assert is the most critical component of their children’s development to a few hours on Sunday.
With God’s help, we can be the generation of church leaders and shepherds who instill a discipleship mindset in our congregations, equip parents to disciple their kids, and reverse these alarming trends. I believe there is a shift our churches can make today that will impact generations to come.

They are trying to disciple, support, and develop healthy pastors and staff through conversations, counseling, coaching, resources, and leadership pipelines. Yet many still wonder what actually helps leaders become mature and sustainable. Drawing from Blessing Ranch Ministries’ decades of care for Christian leaders, recent UCI research with more than 2,200 ministry leaders, and qualitative interviews with pastors, this breakout explores what is happening beneath the surface of pastoral leadership and what God may be inviting churches to notice now. Participants will leave with a practical framework for forming leaders who are honest, teachable, resilient, courageous, dependent on Christ, and able to last.
